Medication-Assisted Treatment or MAT, such as buprenorphine, methadone, or suboxone, helps to reduce these uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms using an opioid replacement medication and lowering the risk of relapse during the early stages of recovery. It also addresses cravings for the drug during this period. It will facilitate a slow, controlled taper of the drug so that the person can adjust to living without opioids. MAT can be a very good additional form of therapy, especially for someone who has been using for a long time.
