The Art of Not Wasting a Day
“I can never see the sunrise too many times/Fall asleep with you under the northern lights…” If you give William Prince a listen, you’ll find yourself in the presence of a gentle but passionate songwriter who knows where he comes from. A member of the Peguis First Nation in Manitoba, Canada, Prince writes music that evokes both a somber awareness of how we travel from loss to loss and a deep, pensive joy in being alive.
Don’t be surprised if you want to sit back and bask in the big, warm embrace of his voice. All the same, Prince is not singing to overpower but to comfort and heal. His sign-off from this Tiny Desk Concert evokes the very feelings his music evokes: “Take care of one another, be kind to one another, have patience and empathy…and listen to good songs.”
